We call ‘Milennials’ to the generation of people who reached adulthood after the year 2000. Other definitions date the starting of this generation in the early 1980’s, that is people wo were born between 1982 and 2004. This can be found in the book Generations: The History of America’s Future, 1584 to 2069 (1991), written by Neil Howe and William Strauss often credited with coining the term ‘milennial’.
They are one of the largest segments of the world and because they are the first truly digitally-native generation on the planet, one of the main features of this generation is that the natural use and the speed of embrace of new technologies. Another one is the consumption behaviour, because of this technology driven taste their buying habits are really different.
Taking all of this into account, the way they learn is supposed to be different too. In fact, another characteristic is their short span of attention, so new technologies must be present in their workplace and also in their training methodology.
These are some reasons why Augmented Reality (AR) could be an important edtech tool for milennials:
- They are technology driven and they have already embraced Pokemon Go massively.
- According to a research by Intel and Dell, 77% of surveyed were willing to see VR and AR products in their future offices.
- Augmented Reality is more and more taking a its place in the educational field, providing teachers and students more attractive ways to interact.
- They are mobile-first users and according to a survey 96% of them think cameras are crucial.
- Augmented Reality and Image recognition allow brands and retailers to provide new mobile experinces.
- Their buying habits are different, they look for incredible user experiences and brand interaction.
There are more and more edtech solutions and apps based on Augmented Reality to enhance the learning process or the acquisition of skills in many different fields, like welding.
